Summer in Catalina

Nothing I love more than a little spontaneity. When you wake up to a gorgeous California morning there’s only one thing to do…head to the beach! Although, this time we decided to spice it up by heading just off the coast to the island of Catalina.

Many of the harbors in Orange County provide transportation to the island. We took the Catalina Flyer which departs from Balboa Island. It was a hectic morning since we decided to go 30 minutes before the only boat left! We grabbed our sunscreen, GoPros, and bathing suits and were out the door in seconds. (I’d strongly recommend planning your trip ahead of time).

The ride over was quick and easy. They have a bar that offers snacks and drinks, but we decided to use this as our nap time. After arriving, we saw quite a few stands offering golf carts for rental and decided this was a perfect way to tour the island!

The cliffs provided us with absolutely spectacular views of the harbor (and pretty nice backdrops, if I do say so myself). On one of the hills we even saw a group of deer so close, you could pet them! We also enjoyed looking at all the different houses. Catalina is covered in charming homes, each with their own character.

It was a toasty day on the island, so a dip in the ocean was much needed after our excursion. All along the beach are different shops to rent snorkeling gear, paddle boards, floaty toys…you name it. There is also a fun bar called Descanso Beach Club where you can buy drinks and sip them on the sand.

You can’t end the day without grabbing a refreshing ice-cream on the water! If your looking for a day trip or a weekend getaway, Catalina is perfect for both. Next time I’m on the island I definitely want to kayak, hike, and try out their famous zip line. If you know of any other fun suggestions let us know below!
