A Play Day in L.A.

Los Angeles

Working full-time makes it a bit difficult to explore, so when I have two days off in a row…you better believe I’m going to make an adventure out of it! Los Angeles provides the perfect setting for a girls day, so I rounded up a couple of my friends for a quick drive up the coast.

We began our day with lunch at Gracias Madre. If you are looking for a trendy restaurant with food as delicious to photograph as it is to eat, this is the place for you. The patio sits under a canopy of trees with a fun, earthy vibe. I’d highly recommend ordering one of their bowls along with an “adult snowcone.”

Gracias Madre was located right on Melrose, leaving us with no choice but to do a bit of shopping. I like this area because there’s a good combination of designer stores and smaller thrift shops (a little something for everyone). Melrose is also the location of fun street art and the famous ‘pink wall.’ As basic as it was, we couldn’t help but pose for at least one photo!

Being from Southern California, it saddens me to say that I still haven’t been to LACMA. We were planning on heading there after strolling around Melrose to get some pictures in front of the Urban Light display, but much to our dismay, the lights were under construction! This was the perfect opportunity to put my words of wisdom to use. Instead of getting upset, we decided to spend the second half of our adventure in Santa Monica.

Arriving on the Santa Monica 3rd St Promenade, we had to continue shopping, I mean really…it was out of our control! The street is lined with more chain stores than the boutiques you will find on Melrose, but still plenty of great shops. A big attraction is the Santa Monica Pier: picture worthy and saturated in vibrant colors. The pier is lined with arcade games, roller coasters, and stands selling yummy sacks (not to mention the ridiculous street performers).

Catching the sunset on the drive home was the cherry on top of a fun day with friends.
